Coverstory of the Verden Auction

Don Diego Ymas - the Spanish Champion U25 / 2017

“I am so very proud of Don Diego,” posted an elated 19-year-old Juan Pablo Matute Guimon on Facebook after having won the Spanish Championships on June 3 in Segovia/Spain. He now carries the title “Best U25 Dressage Rider in Spain” after having won this title with his best horse, Don Diego Ymas.

Don Diego Ymas is no secret tip any more among horse people. He already won the bronze medal at the U25 Europan Championships in Hagen in 2016 and achieved top placements at other competitions, for example at the Grand Prix for young riders in Aachen. Born in Spain, the young rider now lives and trains with his family in Wellington in Florida/USA at Yeguada de Ymas stud. His father Juan Matute Senior is also a successful international dressage rider. He had won the Spanish Championships several times and participated at three Olympic Games. Apart from that, he is the sports director of the stud.

The Matute-family has already discovered a number of horses at the Verden auctions. They belong to the huge Hanoverian family, and all their Hanoverian horses were resp. are successful competition horses. Quantico Ymas by Fighting Fit, Dhannie Ymas by Don Crusador/Weltmeyer and Don Diego Ymas all come from the Verden auctions and carry the family name supplement Ymas. Don Diego was the no. 13 at the Verden Spring Auction in 2007 where he was exhibited by his breeder Claus Schütt from Hemmoor. Don Plato was the name of the Don Frederico/Wolkenstein II-son at the auction where he was ridden by Jörn Ahrens and Kathrin Meiners. He has the same granddam as Desperados FRH. Juan Matute describes Don Diego as follows: “Don Diego is a special horse. We trust each other. He is the captain of our team!”
